I finally
got around to doing this figure. The new Batgirl is definitely one of
the most interesting characters to be added to the Bat-mythos in years,
and I wanted to create a figure that captured the muscular and lean structure
of Cassandra Cain. (Batgirl).
The base
figure is a Danger Girl Sidney Savage. Her head has a great face.
I removed her plastic hair, and filled her mouth area in with Sculpey
to create the mask. To create the top of the head and ears, I cut off
the top of Sidney's head and glued on the top of a Batman Beyond
head. The two lined up surprisingly well, and saved me the trouble of
sculpting ears.
Sidneys cleavage was filled in with Sculpey to smooth out the top of her
costume. Her boots were added with Sculpey also. Her belt was created
from the pouch belts of a 5" WWII soldier figure I found at TRU (Sorry,
their name escapes me). Glove fins were glued-on sheet styrene, and her
cape is from a JLA Re-release Batman.
Batgirl's
costume is finished in a semi-flat black and lightly airbrushed with a
dark gray. I always thought her costume looked more charcoal gray than
black in the comic book. This effect added much more depth to the costume
than plain black.
