Milwaukee Area Land Conservancy

The Milwaukee Area Land Conservancy (MALC) is a conservation organization, founded by local Milwaukee volunteers, that offers several alternatives in land protection.  Click here to read about our accomplishments.

On October 7, 2006, there was a tour of Fitzsimmons Woods, a beautiful property preserved through the efforts of MALC who now owns it.  The tour was part of the Parade of Preserves, organized by Gathering Waters Conservancy.  Fitzsimmons woods is one of the last remnant hardwood forests in southeast Wisconsin and home to more than 140 native plant species.

Despite being the most urbanized county in Wisconsin, Milwaukee County has many natural areas that still offer beautiful scenery, diverse plant communities, and wildlife habitats.
 Perhaps you enjoy one of these natural areas near your home. Have you ever wondered if it will remain intact or become developed? Do you want opportunities to enjoy bird watching, hiking, and peaceful reflection?

MALC's mission is to preserve and protect land and water resources with significant conservation or open-space value for the benefit of the public, and for the wildlife that depends upon it, in order to maintain quality of life, biodiversity, and natural scenic beauty for future generations.

You can help protect our natural heritage

*    by making a donation
*    by becoming a member of MALC
*    by volunteering your time and talents
*    by placing your land under permanent protection
*    by providing referrals to interested landowners

Today there are over 1,200 land trusts and conservancies throughout the United States. Together they have helped protect over a million acres. Wisconsin’s many land trusts (see Gathering Waters Conservancy) have become an important force in efforts to protect the state’s land and water resources.

“In one respect every Natural Area has a common uniqueness...
It takes everyone forever to Preserve it,
But one person and one time to Destroy it.”
