· Provide high quality care to new and existing patients
through pre-operative and post-operative care, in-patient care and daily
rounds, and Emergency Department and hospital consultations. This
includes ordering of radiographs, diagnostic tests, laboratory work, and
medications.
· Coordinate our Orthopaedic care with primary care practitioners
and other consulting specialists, nursing staff, and families. Common
office procedures include management of closed fractures with casting and
splinting and assisting in reductions; pulling of pins; aspiration and
injection of joints, bursae, carpal tunnels, trigger fingers, and cysts.
· Obtain a history and physical examination and implement
a plan of care including making appropriate consultations.
· Carry out emergency department or hospital consultations
implementing management with phone or in-person consultation of the attending
Orthopaedic surgeon.
· Routinely provide follow-up care to surgical and non-surgical
patients. Common surgeries performed include knee and shoulder arthroscopy,
rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction, total knee, shoulder, and hip
arthroplasty, trauma and fracture care.
· Perform various roles in each surgery including assisting
in open and closed reduction of fractures; implantation of nails, screws,
and pins with reaming, drilling and measuring; arthroscopic ACL with graft
preparation, bone tunnel drilling, and graft passing and fixation; shoulder
suture anchor placement with suture passing, and arthroscopic knot tying.
In all cases, perform deep and superficial closure.
· In addition to surgical and office duties, I have been
involved in sideline medical coverage for area high school sporting events.
· I have lectured at the annual Orthopaedic and Sports
Symposium and been on the planning committee for the Symposium.
· I have been involved in Osteoporosis prevention and treatment
including implementing treatment in our department and giving lectures
to the community as well as medical professionals.
· I have acted as a preceptor of PA students and work to
continually develop the curriculum for the rotation. I have recruited PA
programs to participate in our rotation.
· In addition, I provide coding and billing for office
visits and surgical procedures. I have initiated and implemented PDA &
computerized OR schedulin, and wrote operations guidelines for Extremity
MRI use in Orthopaedics, now utilized hospital wide
· My work goes beyond routine assisting and care to provide
a service to the greater community for the greater well-being of our patients
and our medical community.
