Equipment

This is where I need to make lots of upgrades. The idea was to keep the whole theater on a realistic budget, so I spent a major percentage of the budget on the room, which is not easily upgraded, and spent the rest on the equipment, which can be changed easily.

Projector

The projector is a prized garage sale find. The guy did not know how to use it, let alone converge it, so he sold it to me for - get this - 50 Bucks! It's not the best projector in the world, but for 50 bucks....
It's a sony VPH 2020Q, Video only, scans up to 15Hz, with video and RGB inputs. Internal NTSC Decoder sucks, so I paired it up with an external NTSC Decoder, which accepts SVideo. I'd like to compare the picture to an old 96" RPTV.

The worst part about this thing is that I can never get contented with the convergence. I think the blue tube is on it's way out, but it still gives a watchable picture.

Projector Ceiling Mount

The Ceiling mount is a Frankenstein "conglomebob", I built using a bunch of metal bars, screws, nuts, washers, a loop hook, and a threaded rod which the projector hangs on to.

Screen

The screen is a shiny tablecloth type fabric I bought at Jo-Anne Fabrics for about 9 dollars. It's stapled to a 2x3 frame, and finished with black painted window trim. It gives a very bright picture, but there seems to hotspots, on white colors.

Receiver

The receiver is an older Pioneer VSX D498 that I moved from my upstairs theater setup. It's not much, but it will work for now.

Speakers

5 speakers are DIY. I built three D'Apollito Array speakers for left, center and right, and I built frankenstein dipole type surrounds. The sub is an 8 inch Audiosource powered sub, that I also moved from my upstairs theater setup. The sound is very good given the money I spent. All of the speakers are hidden behind black speaker fabric.
