Foreward

I got my ham license in high school back in 1963, and I have been interested in antennas for 30 years or so. I even worked as an antenna engineer for five years after I got my Master's in Electrical Engineering at Northwestern University in 1973. I recently got a copy of W1FB's Antenna Notebook out of the public library and had a chance to go through much of it. I agree with much of it. I liked the organization of the book, and I thought that this would be a good springboard to launch a discussion of antenna topics. I would like to make a few clarifications, corrections, and additions to it. I'd correspond directly with W1FB if I could, but I can't. We now know more and can do more than in the 1980's. I don't think he'd mind an update.

These notes are written to interlock exactly with the W1FB book. I would recommend that the reader should first read a chapter of the W1FB book and then read any additions I might have on that subject and then go on. This would minimize any "unlearning" that might be needed.
