The Lipnice Castle was one of the most imposing Czech nobility castles. It was founded in the early 1300s by the lords of the powerful Lichtenberg clan and rebuilt in the early 1500s by the Trčkas of Lípa.There was an Ear of Dionysius enabling a scribe to listen to and record a conversation carried on in the adjacent room among the visitors of the Lord of the castle once wine loosened their tongues.

The Czechs have retained the knack for this technology, as witnessed by this anti-aircraft artillery's eavesdropping machine Model 33 manufactured by the venerable Czech industrial giant ČKD.
