END OF DAYS - TOC

Chapter Two

Lucky flings himself out of Kelly’s courtyard with a force of violence that topples over the young woman trying to enter. Lucky lands on top of her. After a pause of about five seconds, underneath Lucky a small, out of breath voice whispers softly, "Nice to see you too, Lucky."

"Emily…" Lucky lifts his head to peer into the warm brown eyes of his captive. "I...I’m really sorry ‘bout this, " he murmurs, half dazed after his head butt with his friend and half aroused at lying fully on top of her prone body. Reluctantly, he gets up while rubbing his forehead.

"Gee, EM, you have the hardest head in Port Charles," says Lucky.

"And YOU have the worst sense of direction on the eastern seaboard," Emily chuckles.

Emily pauses and looks into Lucky’s blue eyes. "Bad day, huh?" "No, bad ex" Lucky smiles wryly. Emily looks at him again and says, "What are you talking about cryptic-boy?"

Lucky shakes his head then runs his hand through his hair with a sigh. "Em, Elizabeth just read me the riot act and didn’t even let me apologize for the Zander thing." Lucky holds out a hand to help Emily up while she says, "What’s she in a snit about? We were the ones who were kidnapped, beaten, slashed and hauled into the station. She hid out in her little studio all snug as a bug."

Lucky grits his teeth while his eyes flash. "You know what, Emily? I don’t care anymore, and I don’t want to BE with her," he states as he waves his arms around in the universal ‘be with me’ motion. Emily doesn’t say anything for a moment, then bursts out laughing. "BE WITH ME, my darling!" she mimics. Lucky laughs, too, and soon the two are reduced to tears and terrible side pains from all their laughter.

"Enough about me, so how about you? Is everything okay since Zander let you go? Are you coping all right? Can I do anything?" Lucky looks at Emily with big blue eyes, soft and inquiring.

"Oh, Lucky, you’re so sweet. You’re always thinking about the other person. I’m okay, I guess." Emily unconsciously rubs her wrist. "Life at home sure sucks, but what’s new? Now I’m grounded until I’m eighteen, and they’re talking about locking me in my room for 10 years after that. Everything in my life has changed, and they still treat me like I’m twelve. I just want out, you know? I want out like Jason got out…just leave and never acknowledge them again. Is that too mean of me? They did take me in after my mom died and treated me like their daughter and granddaughter…."

"Yeah, that’s the problem," Lucky quips. Again, they both giggle and smile. Suddenly, the mood changes, and the atmosphere shifts. They grow quiet. Lucky gazes at Emily and reaches out to touch her cheek. His hand lingers as their eyes lock, and he softly trails his hand down the length of her flushed cheek.

Lucky brightens and says "Emily! Let’s go. Let’s leave town again, only this time for real. I’m so tired of this scene, and I don’t care if I ever come back. Come on," he says reaching for her hand and squeezing it tight. You’re my best partner in crime, my runaway pal."

Emily giggles, figuring Lucky is joking around. Lucky squeezes her hand again, and she looks up at him. "Lucky Spencer, you’re serious!" "Damn right," he replies, and they hold hands while racing toward the docks and their freedom.
