My grandmother was 100 years old when she passed away. I was seven at the time. I remember her telling me she made the Christmas tree ornaments. They went out and cut down the tree and she decorated it with crocheted doilies shaped like stars and snowflakes and a crocheted angel on top. They made strings of popcorn for around the tree.
All presents were handmade and other presents were food she had baked and gave to others. She said if there was a special present they wanted, then they bartered for it or sold milk, eggs, pigs, or whatever needed to get the special present.
I can still make those doilies. :)
