Omni V.9 Buttons

Nothing improves an Omni V like Carl's N4PY V.9 modification.  Most of the modification is quite easy.  But, one of the more complicated tasks is changing and replacing the buttons on the front of the panel.

The current band buttons (160, 80, 40,...) need to be moved.  Three 10 meter buttons need to be replaced with "Enter", "Shift", and "Clear."

Here's the text of the correct button modification by Carl.

I didn't want to struggle with the front panel and I couldn't get the three new buttons from Ten Tec.  I came up with a different solution that may help others in the same situation.

I made labels and stuck them on the buttons.  I think they look pretty good.  You're going to have to make labels anyway for the numerals 1 through 9 and 0 for labeling direct entry.  Why not make labels for the whole thing?

First I made a sheet using Microsoft Paint that comes with windows.  I made the background dark gray.  It's second from the left on the top row of the color bar at the bottom of the screen.  Then I entered text using the Arial font, size 12.  I tried black text and red text, but white text showed up best for me.

The text was:

1   160              2     80
3    40               4     30
5    20               6     17
7    15               8     12
9    10               Enter
0  Shift            Clear

I printed the sheet and put double sided carpet tape on the back.  Then cut out the labels, remove the backing from the tape (hardest part of the job), and stick them on the buttons.

The result is no fuss, no muss, reverts to the original easily, and saved opening the front panel.
