The Flying J Organic Farm

The Flying J Farm is a picturesque 250 acres of gently rolling land including 100 acres of woods, a six-acre lake, a swimming pond, three steams, pastures with cows, horses, and donkeys and three friendly dogs. There are five miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding and skiing. The restored farmhouse and one barn were built around 1840.
The proprietor, Richard Jensen, is dedicated to helping people prevent illness through good nutrition using organic foods, water, sun, exercise, stress management through a simple lifestyle, and a relationship with God. Many have found the Flying J Farm to be a place of relaxation and renewal and a source for chemical-free food, cross-country skiing, and horseback riding.

Organic Foods

One of the principles of organic farming is diversity. This means that many different creatures and plants are grown or encouraged. The Flying J Farm grows corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay in a four-season rotation and offers the first three to the organic commodity market. Hay is used for the cows and horses. A small herd of beef cows is included because they provide diversity and fertilizer for the grain crops, they occasionally fit into the crop rotation for weed control, they are of interest to urban guests and, grown chemical and hormone free, they represent a healthier source of food than conventional beef for those who must eat meat.

The Flying J Farm is blessed with hundreds of sugar maple trees that provide sap for the sweetest crop raised. Maple syrup is available on the farm all year round. In season, the following fruits, vegetables and grains for purchase at the farm:

Fresh Vegetables
Blueberries
Grapes
Raspberries
Grain: Hard Wheat, Soft Wheat, Edamame Soybeans
When the trees grow up: Apples, peaches, cherries

The Flying J Farm has a small CSA providing seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables to customers in Newark/Granville, New Albany, Westerville, and Mt. Vernon.
