Comments: On behalf of WO Charles E. Holloway, I would like to thank all of you who contributed to this web page and for honoring my father's name. My heart is still leaping with pride after going through each page and seeing how Camp Holloway has served so many service men. I was just 7 years old when my father died. As tragic as his death has been for me and my family, I have always believed he died for his country. Through the years, when I would run across somebody who had served in Viet Nam I would ask them if they ever went through Camp Holloway. Many times they said they had. I have always been proud that it was named after my dad, and felt a connection with anyone who had been through there. I agree with my brother, my father would be proud of you. Thank you so much for your dedicated service to our country, and "Welcome Home!"

Comments: On behalf of WO Charles E. Holloway I would like to tell all of you, "Welcome Home!" My Dad would be proud of what is done here. As I toured each and every page my eyes came to tears more than once at both the memory of my father and family, and for the honorable service of so many thousands. For the past twenty six years I have called these soldiers my family and will continue to do so for the remaining years of my life. You have left me with a joy I have sought for a long time. Thank you, all of you, for your service, your honor, and your memories. CSM Charles R. Holloway, son of WO Charles E. Holloway

Comments: Buddy, Great job on preserving some of our history! I especially enjoyed seeing Camp Holloway in the late years after it grew up. In 1964 there were only about 16 Hueys in one row next to a hard red dirt air strip. Sappers and mortars took about half the Hueys out on two occassions. Security was provided by the ARVN then and they were not overly reliable. Camp Holloway had the only Hueys stationed in the Central Highlands in 1964. Best to ya, Roy Kauffman

Comments: Thanks for this wonderful creation - I'm one of the old holdouts of this modern age but thanks to my old Camp Holloway friend Bob (Doc) Kilpatrick I surrendered. I served with the 119th from 7/68-7/69 and I was the company sparky that, on occasion' would disappear with Doc as his gunner or with anyone else that would have me. I have been in touch with Jake(no job), crazy Davey Silk,Mixer and of course Doc.I don't Know about anybody else but the memory is fading fast so if you recall anything jump on!!!! Thanks again and happy hunting.

Comments: I was with the 2nd of the 8th Cav in 1965 and we work out of Camp Holloway. Some of you may know or may not know that you guys were the first people we saw who had jungle boots, in fact I sent a patrol into your base camp and stole about 30 pair of boots so that my guys could have something to wear and protect their feet. it seem that our supply lines did not have enough boots for the grunts. In case one of the readers of this was one of the unlucky ones that lost a pair of boots. may I offer a belated thank you for donating them for a good cause.

Comments: I have a question. Just received the "Dragonflight" from Vern Gano. I recognize all the units but can't remember if the 355th was assigned or attached to the battalion. I arrived Camp Holloway July of 1968. In Sept. the company headquarters moved to the Coast with the 268th Bn. I moved with it but returned in January as the Platoon Leader of the Platoon that stayed there and DEROSed in July at the end of regular tour. Just wondering why the 355th doesn't show up as part of the Bn. Memory says we were assigned for awhile. Also can I change my mailing address on line? Thanks Dave Sullivan

Comments: I was group chaplain for 17th Combat Aviation Group during 1970-71 (my second RVN tour). Group HQ was at Artillery Hill when I arrived. Soon thereafter we closed down Artillery Hill and moved the group HQ to Camp Holloway. I replaced the 52nd CAB chaplain when he rotated home and his position was not refilled. 17th Group and 52nd CAB coexisted, and I was the Holloway chaplain. To my knowledge, no chaplain was assigned to Holloway after I left. I imagine chaplains flew in from down country to provide services. Before I left to come home, there was a major NVA advance against Kontum, and I ministered to many hurt and wounded troopers from the helicopter companies while they were being treated at 17th Evac Hospital. We also had rockets into Holloway during this offensive phase, and zappers got into the amunition dump and created trouble. I, fortunately, was not wounded during two tours in RVN, except spiritually and emotionally, as everyone else.

Comments: Hello!! Everyone, I have been on this site before but never thought to leave a message. I don't know why. I guess it's kind of hard for someone to locate you after all the years. I was at Camp Holloway back in 1970 -1971. I was the mortar Plt. SSgt. at that time , in charge of the Camp Holloway security. My next in command was Rich Valentini he was a Sgt. and my right hand man . I just found his message posted on this site last week. I sent him a E-mail and he already got back to me . What a site. We had a lot of good times together and a bunch of parties. The motar plt. was at the end of the run way . Right on the fence line. Still can remember replotting all fire missions around base camp. Everyone thought it was in-coming rounds. We got the rounds within 100 yards of the fence line . I do remember it shook up my company as our company was right on the fence line, which was D Troop 7/17 cav. Now 53 and still in good health. A little late but wecome home to all. Bill E. Ryerson Sr. P.S. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Captain (then) Authur H. Trujillo , he was my company commander, we were prtety close. I still have alot of pictures of him and I together. Would appreciate any help. Thank's again, Bill
