The day I arrived at Holloway there was a Chinook on the ramp that had chopped itself in half presumably with rotor sync. problems. I will never forget looking at that chopped up chopper wondering what I was getting myself into. I have looked for information about "Pleiku" many times and just stumbled on this site. I was stationed at the Pleiku Air Base in the 633rd Supply Squadron from July 1966 to July 1967. I have hundreds of colored slides from that period. I spent some time with the Special Forces at Dak Pek (not too sure of that spelling). Spent alot of time in the villages with the natives, helping with the schools, animal husbandry, etc. I'd love to go back. I have a special place in my heart for all of you splendid guys in the Army....I always felt you were doing more than your share! The best I could do was to spend time with your Special Forces. I have a son who is a career Marine (due to retire in 18 months) who spent some time in Saudi when things went south. My older son is attached to a wonderful girl from DaNang (I'm not sure I spelled that right either) with an unknown American father.
