Unit/Tour/Comments: I was with the 573rd S&S Co. DS from Aug 66 thru Sept. 67. Our unit was newly formed at Fort Campbell, Ky and moved as a unit aboard the troop carrier USNS Gen.William S. Weagle. I remember how quiet everyone got when the LSU was about to land at Qhi Non. Our unit was made up of a Class 1, Class 2&4, Class 3 (POL),Class 5,a laundry and bath platoon, and a graves registeration platoon. I was in the POL Section and was the one who ordered fuel to be brought by convoy to Pleiku area. I oftened stood on the road by Camp Holloway to separate the convoy and send fuel on to New Pleiku Air Force and also to Class 3 at Camp Holloway. Although I did not fly the aircraft and be in direct contact with the pilots and crews, I still had a small part in the lives of them that bore the brunt of the fighting there. I enjoyed this site and I hope to contact some old friends because of it. It will always be in my thoughts and hardly a day goes by that I don't think of the men and women that didn't get to come home with us. Thanks for making my day. I would welcome anyone who would like to correspond and exchange old (War Stories) like the night, while on guard duty, at the POL yard during dense fog, we saw movement and began firing for about 15 minutes and when daylight came we found 17 dead water buffalo out side our perimeter. These kind of stories are the ones I try tell to my children and grandchildren as it is easier to tell. Thanks again for maintaining this site and hope to here from old buddies soon.

Unit/Tour/Comments: Arrived Camp Holloway Sep 65 with 2d Platoon, 498th Air Amb Co. Attached to 52nd CAB for logistics. Was the A/C on the 1st Flight into Plei Me Special Forces Camp early the morning after it was taken under attack by the NVA.Pilot was a W/O Peters who was later killed in a 1st Cav operation. Made several more Evacs plus one night evac during the attack. Found it comforting to have the 52nd Guns along and also to other locations such as Dak Peck. Only nervous about the slow speed with the D model so the B model guns could keep pace.

Unit/Tour/Comments: The joy to look in the past. Fellow americans who went in harms way. I served in 227th Avn (Chickenman), later colors changed to 3rd Avn 52nd Avn Bn (Flying Dragons). I was assigned by Major Adams (CDR) to serve in UH-1 Maintenance Plt. He later was killed in action. The smells of latrine burn, roast beef made in ways my wife dont know, 7 days a week, I remember the 361st Pinkpanthers next door. Our famous flyby when a crash occured. Our ops building painted bright orange and mountain yard grass hut beside it. The New Guy drink for all newcomers. Write if you can! Happy Holidays, Anyone have Chickenman patch? I can get made by Koreans here.

Camp Holloway was the only place to be in the war. With Pleiku just out the gate with all the fine restaurants. Or the mountainyard village straight acroos the main gate. rick
